ROUND THREE - CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund
Many students are experiencing unexpected expenses related to the disruption of campus operations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Navarro College received a Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) grant created under the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which will be used to advance our commitment to helping students affected by the current COVID-19 crises. The CARES Act Emergency Aid provides financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted, many of whom are facing financial challenges and struggling to make ends meet.
The third round of the CARES Act Emergency Aid will open up on November 2, 2020 and will close on January 16, 2021 at 12 pm. The third round of CARES Act Emergency Aid will provide financial aid grants to qualified students who are satisfactory attending spring 2021. A third-round opens in November targeting qualified students who are satisfactorily attending spring 2021. Federal funds are limited and awards will be based on the number of qualified applicants, total amounts requested, and funding available for each round. Priority will be given to students who are enrolled in 15 semester credit hours or more.

CARES Act - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Satisfactorily attending spring 2021 in an approved degree or credential in at least one face-to-face course.
- U.S. citizen or national, a permanent resident, or an eligible noncitizen, and have a social security number,
- Registered for the selective service (if male),
- Earned a high school diploma, GED, or completion of high school in approved homeschool setting,
- Not owe any financial aid or have defaulted on any financial aid loan, or not have been involved in any fraudulent receipt, distribution, or overpayment of financial aid funds,
- Not have a federal or state conviction for drug possession or sale, with certain time limitations,
- Be in good Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standing,
- Financial Need based on expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care)
- Complete and submit a FREE APPLICATION for Financial Student Aid. If you have already submitted a FAFSA for 2020, step 2 is not required.
- Fill out the online application. Round Three opens Monday, November 2, 2020 – Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 12 pm.
- You will be contacted by Navarro College via e-mail by Friday, February 12, 2021.
- Disbursements of grants will start Friday, February 19, 2021.
Emergency aid does not require repayment and will not interfere with your current financial aid. If your situation changes, feel free to donate your fund to support other students.

CARES Act REPORTING

Many students are experiencing unexpected expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund-IHE/Student Aid provides funding to institutions to distribute emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted by COVID- 19, many of whom are facing financial challenges and struggling to make ends meet. As stated in the Certification and Agreement of the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund-IHE/Student Aid, the following information must appear to the public 30 days after April 22, 2020, when Navarro College received its allocation under 18004(a)(1), and update this information 45 days after that:
- On April 14, 2020, Navarro College signed and returned to the Department of Education
the Certification and Agreement that the institution intends to use, no less than
50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide
Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
- Navarro College received $2,050,823 from the Department of Education under the institution's
Certificate and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
- As of December 31, 2020, Navarro College distributed $1,069,811 in Emergency Financial
Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a) of the CARES Act.
- A total of 879 students at Navarro College are eligible to participate in programs under Section
484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and eligible to receive Emergency
Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. This is the number of students whom the institution has received an Institutional
Student Information Record (ISIR), plus the number of students who completed a Navarro
College CARES Act Emergency Aid online application.
- Navarro College distributed 870 emergency financial aid grants under Section 18004(a)(1)
of the CARES Act to 691 students.
- To determine which students received Emergency Financial Aid Grants, Navarro College
established the following criteria:

aid available for each round, and priority of funds are given to students currently
enrolled and/or the degree to completion.
